The "Queen of Rockabilly" Wanda Jackson is still performing today at the age of seventy-five. While continuing to belt out her old country western and rock and roll classics, she recently began a contract with record producer Jack White who challenged her to expand her material. He selected a song of Amy Winehouse's but it would be some time before Jackson would agree to perform the questionable content.
She described White urging her to do a rendition of You Know That I'm No Good by the recently deceased British singer-songwriter Amy Winehouse. After much pressure and his many rewrites of the song, which in her opinion were not "age-appropriate" and a little too vulgar, White finally managed to create some lyrics that worked for her and she agreed to do the recording. It is now one of her favorite works.
This album needs to be heard and bought. Bought because theres a need for another Wanda Jackson album already. This lady is 100 per cent addictive. When you hear albums like this it reminds you that radio may be a wasteland but there are still places that music matters. This is one of those places, where the human spirit never dies.
